Currently in the market, evaluating flat feet and similar conditions through plantar pressure distribution systems is a very common method.
A plantar pressure distribution system places a large array of high-sensitivity pressure sensors inside a pressure plate, which can sense and detect in real time the pressure distribution of various parts of the sole during states such as standing still or walking.
It can collect data such as plantar pressure magnitude, peak pressure, contact area, and the trajectory of the center of pressure.
So, how does a plantar pressure distribution system evaluate flat feet? What is the principle?
Generally, it is through the arch index, which is automatically calculated by AI, and then evaluated.
Arch index = medial arch contact width ÷ forefoot contact width.
When the arch index is < 0.21, it is evaluated as a high arch.
When the arch index is between 0.21 and 0.26, it is evaluated as a normal foot.
When the arch index is between 0.26 and 0.31, it is evaluated as flexible flat foot.
When the arch index is > 0.31, it is evaluated as rigid flat foot.
If our feet have flat feet or other foot deformities detected through the equipment, we should pay sufficient attention.
Especially for moderate flat feet and severe flat feet, we must pay attention; correction can be achieved by wearing orthotic insoles or using other methods, and it is best to have professional doctors and rehabilitation therapists provide guidance and correction.
If severe flat feet are not corrected for a long time, it is very likely to lead to the occurrence of the following harms:
It will cause pain in the arch, stinging pain, etc., when we walk or stand for a long time.
It will induce foot eversion, leading to the occurrence of symptoms such as corns and calluses.
It will cause us to experience frequent ankle sprains, thick calves, calf soreness and distension, tibial pain, lumbar muscle strain, chronic back pain, lumbar disc symptoms, etc.
Our feet support our bodies; once foot problems occur, it not only causes foot pain and other issues, but also indirectly leads to the occurrence of diseases in other parts of the body, which can be described as affecting the whole body by pulling one hair; we must attach full importance to our foot health.
Especially for adolescents and children, whose foot bones have not yet fully developed, regular examinations to detect problems early and correct them in a timely manner are very necessary, which can better safeguard the healthy growth of adolescents and children.
